Compete. Commit. Grow.
Little Miami Athletic Basketball is designed for players who are ready for a higher level of competition, development, and commitment. Athletic players build on strong basketball fundamentals while developing the skills needed to compete at an increasingly advanced level.
Program Overview
Athletic opportunities are offered for boys and girls.
Grades 3–6
Players participate in an annual evaluation process before teams are formed.
Tryout-Based
Teams are placed at appropriate CPYBL competitive levels based on player and team ability.
Competitive Divisions
Increased Commitment
Athletic teams typically practice more frequently and play a more competitive schedule.
Athletic Team Levels
CPYBL uses multiple Athletic levels to help teams compete against appropriately matched competition.
Â
A Athletic
The highest competitive level, generally consisting of players with greater basketball experience and advanced skills relative to their grade.
Â
B Athletic
A competitive level for players who demonstrate strong fundamentals, basketball understanding, and readiness for increased competition.
Â
C Athletic (Boys only)
Where offered, C Athletic provides an additional competitive level for developing players who demonstrate readiness for Athletic basketball.

High Recreational (10-game season)
Where available, High Recreational Teams provide an increased level of competition for players with more experience or stronger basketball skills.

The number and level of Little Miami Athletic and High Recreational Teams formed each season depends on participation, player evaluations, roster needs, and CPYBL division availability.
Athletic basketball requires a greater commitment of time, effort, and preparation. Families should generally expect:

-
Two practices per weekÂ
-
A 10-week regular season, with two games each weekend (High Recreational Teams play one game per weekend)
-
Games primarily on weekends, with occasional Friday evenings
-
Home and away competition throughout Greater Cincinnati
-
An end-of-season CPYBL tournament
-
A more competitive game schedule
-
Increased emphasis on basketball IQ, team concepts, and competitive execution
Â
Players are expected to attend practices and games consistently and make their Little Miami team a priority during the basketball season.
What to Expect
Athletic Team tryouts are held annually before registration for boys and girls entering grades 3–6.

-
Skills & Assessments: Players participate in a skills-based evaluation designed to assess basketball fundamentals and readiness for Athletic competition.
-
Live Callbacks: Selected players may be invited to a second evaluation featuring live basketball situations. Evaluators consider more than individual skills. Teamwork, decision-making, effort, basketball IQ, competitiveness, and coachability all contribute to the evaluation process.
-
Team Placement: Following evaluations, rosters are formed and players are placed at an appropriate competitive level based on the overall tryout results and team needs.
Â
A player's placement in a previous season does not guarantee placement the following year.
Â
Players who aren't selected for an Athletic Team are strongly encouraged to continue their season through Little Miami Recreation Basketball.
